Broadband & TV

The area is well served by broadband and TV providers. For example, Sky offer 500MB download speeds for €30 per month.

As of 2025, services are definitely available from Eir, Sky, Virgin Media, Vodafone, Pure Telecom, and others. At knocknacarra.ie our deal is with Vodafone 500 MB Broadband and 90 TV Channels (no Sky Sports) for €50 per month. (We do not get paid for this -- it is just an example.)

Make sure you call around for a good deal, and we recommend you check OneBigSwitch.ie and Bonkers.ie for the latest offers.

Bins / Rubbish

You have a choice of two main companies for bins/refuse collection: Barna Recycling, and CityBin.

Barna Recycling have a standard €12 standard fee plus 19c per kg of waste and 12c per kg of compost. Alternatively they have an "all in" plan for €229 per year (payable every six months).

Here are knocknacarra.ie we are with CityBin. Their annual charge for us is about 10% more than Barna - €252.80 per year. We found it actually cheaper to go with them for a monthly plan rather than annual. We are not particularly happy with CityBin - we had to complain about non-collection in the past and were not at all happy with their customer service. We do not recommend them.

The largest glass bottle (clear, green, brown) bank is located on the Western Distributor Road in front of Aldi. This service is free for the public and you do not need a household waste provider to access this. Also located at this location are bins to donate old clothes to Enable Ireland.

A second glass bottle bank (with no clothes donation option) is located near Tesco on the Shangort Road (previously Joyce's).
